Author Interview: Rue Volley

Welcome Rue Volley to Author Fever!

What do you do when you aren’t writing?

I guess a better question would be what do I NOT do. Lol. I am a professional photographer, graphic designer and jewelry maker. I shoot my own book covers as well as many others including video for book trailers now which I just started to do. As if I did not have enough going on. Hahahaha. But all kidding aside I love everything I do and I am so grateful to my fanbase who have made me a bestselling author and it is them who allowed me to live on my art.

If you had to choose an all-time favorite book, what would it be?

I can’t. Sorry. Books to me are amazing snippets into worlds people are so gracious to share to with all of us and to pick one would be impossible.

What inspired you to start writing?

Divine intervention in my life. I was working in retail management in 2010 and turning 40 and suddenly I started to write the first chapter of Blood & Light book one. Then my Father died and I kept writing to handle the stress and grieving of that. Writing is an outlet for me to share my humor and pretty much anything in my life. So much truth is wound into my “fictional” books it is scary. I never dreamed of being an author, I know many will tell you that they thought about it as they grew up but my life was not bound to one profession or dream really. My family is full of artists and music was my first love of which I still celebrate and I do play the violin and guitar. I am just grateful that my family has always said “Go for it” and so I do.

What is your favorite genre to write?

Fiction across the board. I love paranormal anything, it is so fun to work without any rules or limitations.

Do you have a set writing schedule, or do you do it when the fancy strikes.

I usually write from early morning to 3pm in the afternoon. I do not know why it is just the way it is.

Do you outline or write as you go (describe your writing process)?

I open the file and start typing and I never re-edit my work. I know someone gasped out there and that is okay but I say this…it is my process and how I do things. I do not second guess where the story takes me and if I lose interest I scrap it and move on to something else. I have 31 books published now and that is only because I believe in them and my editors who handle the grammar stuff and things.

Do you have a certain vice that helps you write?

Music

Describe your muse.

His name is Johnny Depp, need I say more? Probably not. lol

What inspires you?

Life. Everything I see around me has movement and inspires me. I see everything is a picture or a storyline and I try my best to capture that in photography, graphic arts and my storytelling.

Are the people in your life supportive of your writing?

Every single one of them. My husband Von Erik is my biggest fan as well as my soul mate and with his support I have been able to accomplish so much in the past 3 years. My publishing family is also beyond amazing and anyone on Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing, Hot Ink Press and Vamptasy Publishing truly have what it takes to do this and do all that they can to help others as they help themselves move forward. We have one goal and that is World Domination and it is happening.

Is music a part of your writing process?

Absolutely. I love music. I listen to it every single day and it is such a beautiful soundscape to write too.

Tell us about your current work in progress.

I have 5 actually. 2 are novels and three shorts. One is YA, 2 are adult fiction and 2 are erotica. Like I said before I don’t like to function in a box so I write it all.
