Author Interview: Jasmin Lily Duncan

Welcome Jasmin Duncan to Author Fever!

Today’s interview is a special one. I know many authors spend a life-time making their dreams come true. This young lady has accomplished so much at the young age of 11. Jasmin has her first book out, The Unicorn Legacy under Karabeth Publishing in the UK. She isn’t just good for her age, she is good for any age.

What do you do when you aren’t writing?

I like to write songs – wait, does that count as writing? I also like to sing and ride my bike and draw manga.

If you had to choose an all-time favorite book, what would it be?

Wow, that's a really tricky question... I'm not quite sure but it would probably be Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver series – she is an amazing author and I love her descriptions of the characters and also the plot twists.

What is your favorite genre to write?

I like writing fantasy. Fantasy is great, so is supernatural, because you can do anything in your fantasy world, say anything, be anything, and you can create new creatures too, and I think that's just fascinating. It's just really fun in general.

Do you have a set writing schedule, or do you do it when the fancy strikes?

I write when I have time. Sometimes I have no inspiration, but usually I write when my creative juices are flowing (is it just me or does that expression sound a bit gross? Creative juices, yuck.) which is basically before school, at breaktime and lunchtime, and after school. It's a bit annoying still being at school while writing books, because when I have a good idea in the middle of lessons, I can't hurry over to a computer and type up a few paragraphs, I just have to try and remember my idea.

Are the people in your life supportive of your writing?

Yes, definitely. My parents and my big sister are really happy for me, but my nephew sometimes gets a bit irritated when he wants me to play horsey with him but I am absorbed in my writing. He's only little, bless.

Is music a part of your writing process?

Definitely. I like to listen to a wide range of music, like J-pop, K-pop, normal pop, rock, dubstep, house, nightcore etc. but my favourite would have to be electro-pop, like the Japanese electro-pop girl band, Perfume.

If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

I would be able to teleport. That would be awesome.

Is the glass half-empty or half-full?

Half-full. I like to look on the bright side of things.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I used to want to be lots of things. I wanted to be an author, an artist, a vet and a singer – doesn't every young girl?

What is your all-time favorite movie?

The Lion King wins hands-down. I've loved that movie since I first watched it as a small child and I think it's a heartwarming, sweet film (and it makes me cry every time!)

If you could have a dinner party with five people [living or dead], who would you choose and why?

Oh, wow! I think I would choose Ke$ha, because she would really get the party started, Britt Nicole, because her songs are uplifting and positive, Mother Teresa, because she was an amazing person, Anne Frank, because I think she was such a nice girl who had her life taken unfairly, and last but not least, Miranda Hart, because she is hilarious.
